Meeting the British Ambassador

On Dec 9th, 2010 class 4HS went to the main library in Vienna to listen and talk to the British ambassador to Austria, His Excellency Simon Smith. The meeting was organized by the newspaper "Der Standard”.
At first we heard a lot about the duties and the life of an ambassador. Simon Smith gave us the impression that he really loves his job.  After that we had the opportunity to ask any questions we liked. Sometimes we got answers in the "diplomatic language” …, e.g. when someone wanted to know about his opinion about the Wikileaks disclosures. At other times what Simon Smith said sounded very direct….e.g. when the question came up how he felt when Great Britain didn’t manage to qualify for the  FIFA World Cup in South Africa - "Sick as a parrot” was his expression.
